Student Earns Prestigious Truman Scholarship

Mason is producing the next generation of leaders. One is Honors College student Joe Russell, a government and international politics major from Arizona. In addition to being named Mason’s first Rhodes Scholar finalist in a decade, Russell won a Truman Scholarship that pays $30,000 for graduate school to students who plan careers in public service. Russell’s chief interest is civil and social rights. “The opportunities I’ve had at Mason and the things I’ve been able to do here aren’t things I would be able to do back in Arizona,” he says.
